Youth in Canadian politics : participation and involvement / Kathy Megyery, editor. : Z1-1989/2-41-8E-PDF
"There is a widespread perception on the part of social commentators that young people are indifferent or even hostile to the contemporary practice of politics. They appear to have opted out to pursue their own largely self-centred interests, in sharp contrast to the commitment of a previous generation of activists. According to this view, youth has espoused the conservative values of the age and has forsaken its natural role as critic of the political establishment. However, another interpretation points to indications that youth has been developing new forms of social activism. The commitment of youth to, for example, the environmental movement is broader-based and less partisan and ideological than student movements of the previous period. This argument suggests that we are witnessing the emergence of a new type of politics. Which interpretation holds the truth?"--Preface.
