"In Canada and globally, rates of sexually transmitted infections (STI) continue to rise and remain a serious public health threat. Gonorrhea is the most commonly reported drug resistant STI and the second most common bacterial STI in Canada with over 29,000 cases reported in 2017. Worldwide, an estimated 87 million new cases of gonorrhea were reported in 2016"--Introduction, page 4.
