Conference interpretation in Canada / Thérèse Nilski. : Z1-1963/1-2-2E-PDF
"Both translation and interpretation are essentially tools of communication, and as such have a number of elements in common. It is a fairly widespread misconception, however, that the only difference lies in the sound-conveying equipment required for interpretation. In fact, the differences go deeper. As explained in subsequent chapters, not only the setup and the working conditions, but also the mental processes, and the aptitudes and skills involved in interpretation are different from those called for in translation. This study will attempt to provide a bird's-eye view of the present and possible uses of interpretation in Canada, both in Quebec and in the rest of the country"--Chapter I, Introduction, page 2.
