520 |a"Targeted sampling for Eastern Sand Darter (Ammocrypta pellucida), a species listed as Threatened under Canada's Species at Risk Act, was undertaken in the Grand River, Ontario during 2019. Because relatively little information exists about the physiological tolerances of Eastern Sand Darter, sampling was conducted to obtain individual fish for streamside experiments to evaluate the thermal and dissolved oxygen requirements of the species, in partnership with the University of Waterloo. The results of thermal and dissolved oxygen experiments will be disseminated in future publications; this data report summarizes field collections of Eastern Sand Darter near Brantford to undertake the experiments over the course of eight sampling periods between May and November, 2019. Seining was conducted in wadeable habitat (water depth < 1.2 m) between June and late October and benthic trawling was conducted in non-wadeable habitat (water depth > 1.2 m) in late October and November. Overall, 521 Easter Sand Darter were captured ranging from 48 to 72 mm total length; seining surveys (28 sampling days, 187 total hauls) resulted in the capture of 455 individuals, and trawling surveys (4 sampling days, 61 total tows) resulted in the capture of 66 individuals. A total of 282 Eastern Sand Darter were tagged with Visible Implant Elastomer (VIE) tags and 37 individuals were recaptured throughout sampling, including individuals recaptured across multiple sampling periods and nine individuals captured with both seining and trawling"--Abstract, page vi.
