5203 |a"Presented here are simple techniques to convert beamforming problems for fully adaptive arrays to linear constraint weight vector calculation problems which do not use sample covariance matrices. The techniques to set up the equations for the weight vector are developed with a K-element array. They are then applied to adaptive sidelobe cancellation and the simultaneous nulling of the monopulse sum and difference beam patterns. The new weight vector calculation method has many desirable properties. It is easy to impose mainbeam constraints on the weight vector. Like the sample matrix inversion (SMI) method, it has rapid convergence characteristics. As well, the equations can be implemented in special-purpose hardware devices such as systolic arrays designed to increase throughput rates in solving linear equations. Finally, the requirements on computer word-length and arithmetic precision are lower than those of the SMI method"--Abstract, page 1.
