520 |a"One of the Government of Canada's conservation mandates is to conserve nature, including the recovery of species at risk. The Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk (AFSAR) program, established in 2004, supports the development of Indigenous capacity to participate actively in the implementation of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). This fund also enables Indigenous involvement in activities that protect or conserve habitats for species at risk (SAR) and that prevent other species from becoming a conservation concern. The Act recognizes the important role that Indigenous Peoples play in wildlife conservation and the need to consider Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge (ATK) in the SARA process. This document provides general program information and requirements for making an application to the AFSAR"--Background, page 4.
