520 |a"The Boothia Peninsula – Somerset Island area is an under-explored frontier region of the Canadian arctic where knowledge stems from 1962 and 1986-1992 geological mapping, undertaken without benefit of aeromagnetic constraints and very limited U-Pb geochronology. For these reasons, the Geomapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) activity Integrated Geoscience of the Northwest Passage, is strengthening the geoscience knowledge base of the region through modern-concept bedrock mapping supported by high-resolution geophysical, geochronological, and geochemical data sets. Fieldwork during the combined 2017 and 2018 field seasons revealed that the region contains numerous scattered sulphide occurrences mostly associated with clastic supracrustal sequences and their melted derivatives. More than 50 variably sized rusty weathering, gossanous outcrops were noted during ground traverses or spotted during low-level helicopter flights. This report presents geochemical mineral assay analytical results for 31 samples collected from 24 gossanous localities to provide insight into the mineral potential of the region"--Introduction, page 1.
