"Nominal catch in 1986 was 51,306 t, down 5,756 t for 1985. The catch was 3,000 t over the TAC which had been reduced from 55,000 t in 1985 to 48,000 t in 1986. Comparison of observed and predicted 1986 catch at age indicated a greater than expected catch of the recruiting 1981-1983 year-classes. Size segregation of the cod was noted from an analysis of research vessel survey results, and evidence for shifts in fishery effort in response to the recruitment of the strong 1979 and 1980 year-classes was presented"--Abstract, page 2.
