The majority of the Canadian and USA catches in 1986 were comprised of 3-yr-old haddock, the 1983 year-class. Both Canadian and USA research surveys indicate that the 1985 year-class is larger than the average recent recruitment. The results of the assessment suggest that fishing mortality has been relatively high, about 0.3 to 0.5, for ages 3 and older.
