"The objectives of this study are twofold: 1) to promote discussion of the role and contribution that environmental assessment (EA) and related processes can make to planning and implementing sustainable development; and 2) to identify productive directions for applied research that exemplifies and improves this relationship, including demonstration projects that "use-test" new concepts and methods. As the title of this volume implies, it is responsive to the report of the World Commission on Environment and Development"--Introduction.
