Subsurface sediments and late quaternary history of Long Point, Lake Erie / by J.P. Coakley. : En13-5/84-43E-PDF

"Postglacial sediment profiles from three deep boreholes drilled on Long Point exhibit a consistent sequence, with fine, uniform silty clay grading upward to interlaminated silty sand, which is overlain by well-sorted medium sand. The underlying glaciolacustrine clay, where encountered, shows clear signs of erosion. The sequence reflects a progressive change in the postglacial depositional environment from initial subaerial or shallow-water conditions, to sheltered (lagoonal) conditions at the site, through a transitional phase, and finally to the present high-energy spit deposition"--Abstract.
