Calibration of the tipping-bucket raingage / by J. Marsalek. : En36-539/26-1980E-PDF
"Hydrologic and hydraulic" studies sometimes require accurate measurements of the rate at which rain is falling. Rainfall intensities as measured by a "tipping bucket" raingage may have errors. This report has investigated the source of errors and also provides a calibration curve to correct the measured intensity to the actual intensity. Notable is the observation that the performance of the gage is clearly affected by the surface tension of the water and the condition of the bucket surfaces. The results have implications for raingage design and maintenance. Historical data may also require correction"--Management perspective.
