"The unexpected spillage of combustion gasses from induced draft furnaces has raised concern over the suitability of these appliances for tighter Canadian houses and for houses or furnace rooms where depressurization is a likely occurrence. Reasons for spillage include leaky fan assemblies and other design flaws, manufacturing defects and poor installation practice. Problems have been witnessed with both side -wall vented induced-draft furnaces, and induced draft furnaces connected to naturally aspirated vertical chimneys"--Summary.
