520 |a"Emerging from Black feminist scholarship in the late 1980s, intersectionality theory can be applied as an analytic framework to better understand, describe and respond to health inequalities in a way that addresses fundamental determinants of health, and promotes social justice and health equity. As such, integrating intersectionality theory into health inequalities surveillance activities has been identified as one of many priority topics, theories and methods for the Pan-Canadian Health Inequalities Reporting Initiative and Canadian health inequality surveillance more broadly.
