Indicators of liveability for housing environments / prepared by: Penelope C. Gurstein & David J.T. Vanderburgh for the Centre for Future Studies in Housing and Living Environments. : NH18-34/2-1993E-PDF
"This report is intended to answer some of the broad questions raised by the need to assess and monitor quality of life, health, and well-being in Canadian social housing. The report, in focusing on siting, site planning and design aspects of housing, emphasizes the interrelationship between physical aspects of housing and the important human factors which influence residents’ experiences. In large part, physical design is an enabler or limiter of human action rather than a determinant. At the same time, the physical environment may sometimes be "read" as a source of information about its inhabitants’ behaviour and experiences. This dual role allows the development of indicators for the assessment and enhancement of the well-being of social housing residents"--Executive summary.
