520 |a"If rail tank cars that are transporting crude oil get into an accident, a fire sometimes follows. In order to understand how tank cars will behave in a fire, we need to understand how different crude oils burn and how quickly the oil in a tank car heats up. Between 2017 and 2019, the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC) and Transport Canada did three (3) series of pool fire experiments at Sandia National Laboratories. In this study, the lab analyzed and burned three (3) different fuels: heptane, Bakken crude oil, and diluted bitumen (dilbit). The goal of these experiments was to understand how different crude oils burn, and how quickly the oil in a tank car would heat up when exposed to fire"--Provided by publisher.
