Optimum vent locations for partially-pressurized rainscreens : final report / D. Inculet, D. Surry. : NH17-257/1997E-PDF

"Seeking to find methods of reducing rain penetration problems in buildings, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has sponsored this research on a new methodology for venting in rainscreens - the "partially-pressurized rainscreen". The concept is to vent the rainscreen compartment at the location of its maximum mean exterior pressure, thereby creating an outward-acting (negative) mean pressure across the rainscreen in all locations and eliminating the air-pressure differential which can cause rain penetration. The objective of this study was to examine the success of venting rainscreen compartments only at the edge furthest from the nearest building edge where it is believed that, under most relevant situations, the mean exterior pressure will be most positive"--Executive summary.
