"This glossary is intended to provide a convenient reference for the myriad terms and concepts relevant tothe coastal zone and the resources found there. Numerous published references have been reviewed in order to select the best definitions and to provide the meaning of terms as they are used in contemporary British Columbia. In many cases a word will have several meanings; where these relate to different disciplines, the discipline is identified. The reader will notice also that many words are not specifically related to the coastal zone but are ecological, biological, or zoological terms applicable to many environments, they are included here for completeness. As with any dictionary, there is an arbitrary limit to the number of words that can be incorporated; in this instance while many terms and species names are included, many others are not.
