The main active and continuous burrowing area stretched from 3,000 m west of McPherson Point clockwise to the south side of Cohoe Point. The main staging area runs parallel to this burrowing area, about 2 km offshore, from Langara Rocks clockwise to Cohoe Point. The Ancient Murrelet population on Langara Island was estimated at 22,500 nesting pairs in 1981. This figure represents a serious decline from populations previously estimated.
