5203 |a"Burrowing of Ancient Murrelets on Langara Island occurred in open, mossy, forested areas, within 240 meters of shore. Many nesting areas described by previous observers were absent. The main active and continuous burrowing area stretched from 3,000 m west of McPherson Point clockwise to the south side of Cohoe Point. The main staging area runs parallel to this burrowing area, about 2 km offshore, from Langara Rocks clockwise to Cohoe Point. The Ancient Murrelet population on Langara Island was estimated at 22,500 nesting pairs in 1981. This figure represents a serious decline from populations previously estimated. Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons appear to be major predators on Ancient Murrelets"--Abstract, page ii.
