Aboriginal Justice Strategy, formative evaluation : summary, recommendations and management response / Evaluation Division, Policy Integration and Coordination Section. : J2-572/2005E-PDF
"The Department of Justice (DOJ) established the Aboriginal Justice Strategy (AJS) in 1996 to address the overrepresentation of Aboriginal peoples in the criminal justice system. The AJS focuses on strengthening the capacity of Aboriginal communities in order to reduce victimization, crime and incarceration rates through increased community involvement in the local administration of justice. The original mandate of the AJS was renewed and expanded in 2002 to allow for increased training and support to community programs and increased capacity building in the local administration and enforcement of Aboriginal laws"--Introduction, page 1.
