Sheffield Farm aquifer vulnerability study April 1992 : year 4 (1991/1992) activities. : En37-591/1992E-PDF

"Environment Canada, in cooperation with Agriculture Canada, is leading a five year project to determine the environmental behaviour of pesticides and nitrates in the climatic, physiographic and soil conditions found in the Atlantic Region. This approach is providing many interested parties with a site and logistics needed for evaluating the chemistry and fate of agrochemicals in groundwater, particularly as they relate to the guidelines for the registration of pesticides in Canada. Another goal is to shed light on agricultural practices which can be applied to avoid unacceptable contamination of groundwater by pesticides and fertilizers. The study involves the application of pesticides and fertilizers in a controlled manner but closely following normal agricultural practices. Groundwater quality and quantity are monitored through a series of piezometers and lysimeters"--page 4.
