520 | 3 |a"Increasing global demand for lithium coupled with a need to characterize domestic resources necessitates an expanded assessment for lithium production from unconventional sources. Oilfield brines are known to host elevated lithium concentrations and represent a prime candidate for lithium extraction. The purpose of this report is to expand our knowledge of brine chemistry within the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin with a focus on the Triassic Montney and Devonian Duvernay formations. Specifically wells that are undergoing hydrocarbon production stimulated via hydraulic fracturing (HF) are sampled with the eventual goal of assessing the suitability of extracting lithium from flowback and produced wastewater. Two water chemistry datasets are presented, the first consisting of samples derived from numerous wells within the Montney and Duvernay formations, and the second dataset includes time series samples from several wells in the Montney and Duvernay formations illustrating temporal variations in water chemistry following the onset of well re-opening and fluid production after HF operations"--Abstract, page 1. |
