520 | 3 |a"The Gully is the largest submarine canyon in the western North Atlantic and is located on the eastern edge of the Scotian Shelf. Long a focus of conservation efforts due to its unique and highly diverse ecosystem, the Gully was designated a Marine Protected Area (MPA) under Canada's Oceans Act in May 2004. To monitor the success of the MPA at achieving its conservation objectives, 47 ecological and human pressure indicators were proposed in 2010. In 2015, an assessment was conducted on those monitoring indicators. The assessment evaluated if available data were sufficient to assess the management of the MPA in achieving its conservation objectives. This document provides an update on the 17 pressures indicators reported on in 2015. Generally, the data needed to monitor the pressure indicators are consistently available through regional and national federal programs, and in some cases, additional data sources were incorporated to those utilized in 2015. Datasets and analyses are described, suggestions are made for future improvements, and where possible, trends in the data are included"--Abstract, page xi. |
