"The focus of this audit was the management of the regulatory program for Natural Health Products (NHP). These products are governed by the Food and Drugs Act, and regulated through the Natural Health Products Regulations. The regulations were designed to allow market access for these low-risk category products. Health Canada (the Department) regulates the safety and efficacy of all NHPs for the use by humans in Canada before and after the products enter the Canadian market place. Since 2004, the Department has authorized over 85,000 natural health products for sale"--Executive summary, page i.
