5203 |a"A description of the principles and practices used in the preparation of wave data analyses and forecasts at the MFWC Halifax is presented. The method makes maximum use of the available reported wave data, and allows one to fill in the areas of inadequate data by using the persistence of waves from an historical sequence of charts, modified according to the classical patterns of development or decay using duration and fetch considerations and the wind field. While computer produced wave forecasts provide useful values, and may be expected to achieve the best results in due course, a combination of the objective and subjective procedures is currently proving more reliable"--Abstract.
