"Suicide prevention is a major public health priority for the Government of Canada. The Joint Suicide Prevention Strategy (JSPS) was implemented as part of the Strong, Secure, Engaged Defence Policy of 2017. The JSPS addresses the unique stressors on members and their families created by military service, both during and after their years of active service using a framework focused on preventing suicide across the entire military and Veteran community. Due to the unique nature of each organization, both the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) created independent Action Plans to address suicide prevention. The CAF Suicide Prevention Action Plan (SPAP) is the CAF specific plan. … This document will provide guidance to all CAF members, with an emphasis on leadership, on issues of Prevention and Intervention. …"--Introduction, page iv.
