"Following a tour of Canada, organized by the former Materials Branch of the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce (now the Resource Industries and Construction Branch) to study the state of the crafts industry and the status of the craftsman, a visit was made to some European centres renowned for crafts development. During this tour, attention was paid to programs and initiatives that might be similar to or affect the Department recommendations arising from the report on the Canadian survey"--Introduction, page [i].
