Overview of trips and sets in the 2021-2023 comparative fishing program in the Newfoundland and Labrador region / by Kayla Silver, Jenna Makrides, Samantha Trueman, and Laura Wheeland. : Fs97-13/1406E-PDF
"Multispecies trawl surveys are undertaken in the spring and fall of each year in the Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Region. Data from these surveys are used to inform on stock assessments and fisheries management, ecosystem assessments, species at risk, marine conservation monitoring, and a variety of research programs. The Canadian Coast Guard Ships (CCGS), CCGS Teleost and CCGS Alfred Needler are being replaced with the new Offshore Fishery Science Vessels (OFSVs) the CCGS Capt Jacques Cartier and the CCGS John Cabot for use for these surveys. To transition to full use of the new vessels, DFO Newfoundland undertook a comparative fishing program from 2021 to 2023 to determine catchability between the outgoing vessels and the new vessels using a modified version of the current Campelen 1800 trawl. This data report documents a detailed description of the trips and paired sets completed during the NL Region comparative fishing program between these vessels, which ran from the fall of 2021 through to the fall of 2023"--Abstract, page viii.
