"This report is a review of the methods developed for predicting the hydrodynamic added mass inertia of vibrating structures floating or submerged in a fluid. The fluid surrounding a vibrating structure causes an apparent increase in the mass inertia of the structure, which substantially reduces the natural resonant frequencies and alters the dynamic response"--Abstract, page ii.
