"The majority of herbicides presently in use are employed for selective weed control in agricultural crops. Evaluations of the performance of such herbicides are primarily based on the efficiency of the chemical in controlling unwanted vegetation and the tolerance of the crops. However, cropland monocultures are, by fundamental ecological standards, simple and highly unstable ecosystems"--Page 13.
