"The fire resistance ratings included in this document are substantially the same as those formerly in Appendix 4.1.B of the National Building Code 1953. Major changes are being considered by the Associate Committee on the National Building Code who are establishing a fire rating board to study and interpret all fire test reports and establish fire resistance ratings. This proposed program will take some time before it is effective, however, and it is hoped that this revision of the old Appendix 4.1.B will continue as a useful source of information in conjunction with the Code until this can be done"--Introduction, page 3.
