"Every year, approximately 4,500 people die by suicide in Canada, equivalent to approximately 12 deaths every day. This loss has a profound impact on individuals, families, communities and society. The Government of Canada recognizes that suicide is a complex public health issue that requires a coordinated response with multiple partners and sectors, and that this response must be informed by the best available evidence"--Introduction, page 1.
