State of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) report. : En84-395/2025E-PDF

"Pursuant to section 68 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA) (Canada 1999), the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Health have prepared a report on the class of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to provide an overview of the sources, fate, occurrence, and potential impacts of PFAS on the environment and human health. This class of substances was considered a priority on the basis that scientific evidence to date indicates that the other groups of PFAS, including those used to replace regulated PFAS (that is, perfluorooctane sulfonate [PFOS] and its salts and precursors, perfluorooctanoic acid [PFOA] and its salts and precursors, and long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids [LC-PFCAs] and their salts and precursors), may also be associated with environmental or human health effects. This report and its conclusion are intended to inform decision-making on PFAS as a class in Canada. …"--Introduction, page 7.
