AES monthly forecast techniques and verification / by Amir Shabbar. : En57-55/91-3E-PDF
"Monthly temperature anomaly forecasts for Canada have been made in real-time since January 1986. These forecasts make use of empirical orthogonal functions of the 50 kPa height field to filter out small-scale or spatially inconsistent circulation features. Forecast height anomalies at selected points are fitted to the five dominant empirical orthogonal functions in a least-square-error sense"--Abstract.
