"In 1956, for the first time, Canada joined actively in the high-seas fishing operations which form an important part of the International North Pacific Fisheries Commission's program of research on problems raised by the Protocol. The purpose was to gain information on the distribution and abundance of salmon in the North Pacific and to obtain samples which may contribute to a solution of the problem of distinguishing between populations of North American and Asiatic origin. This report presents data on salmon caught in 1956 by Canadian vessels while attempting to fulfill these objectives"--Introduction, page [1].
