Geomorphic considerations in flood mapping. : M45-159/2025E-PDF

"This technical bulletin provides guidance on when and how to consider geomorphology in flood mapping. Hydrogeomorphic processes affect flood inundation and intensity through changes to the flow density, blocking of river channels or culverts, and increases or decreases in the riverbed elevation through deposition and scour. They can also change the spatial distribution of flooding through changes in river size and planform due to bank erosion or avulsion (the creation of a new channel) and reduce the stability of hillslopes through slope undercutting. This technical bulletin is targeted at decision-makers commissioning and applying flood mapping studies and technical practitioners carrying out the work. …"--Introduction, pages 1-2.
