"Seymour-Belize Inlet, situated 200 miles northwest of Vancouver, is a large saltwater basin which is completely land-locked except for a relatively narrow outlet located at its western extremity. Runs of coho and chum salmon spawn in streams tributary to this basin, but the system has never been known to support large populations of salmon. Recently, it has been suggested that this inlet might be converted into a freshwater lake, into which sockeye salmon could be introduced and a large self-perpetuating run developed"--Introduction, page [1].
