520 |a"Experienced meteorologists are well aware of the fact that summer rain is more frequent at some times of the day than at others. Convective showers and thunderstorms normally occur in the afternoon or evening rather than at night or in the morning. Warm frontal rain is most frequent at night since there is a tendency for middle cloud layers to dissipate during the daytime when absorption of solar radiation incident upon the top of the cloud layer is at a maximum. These ideas are of use in forecasting. However, it is felt that they would be even more useful if a careful analysis of the times of occurrence of summer showers, thunderstorms and rain, was made. Such a study has been carried out using the Rockcliffe Airport aviation weather reports for the months of June, July, August and September, in each of the years 1950, 1951 and 1952"--Page [1].
