"The development of the ovary of Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) was examined macroscopically and by microscopic cross section. Oocyte growth and development were recorded by photomicrography for correlation with macroscopic maturity stages of the ovary. Characteristics were described for each maturity stage. A glossary of commonly encountered terms was compiled for use in future investigations of reproductive biology of fishes"--Abstract, page iii.
