"... [A] new multiplexed analog component (MAC) transmission format has been proposed. This technique time division multiplexes (TDM) the two colour difference signals U and V, with the luminance signal Y. These are transmitted sequentially, with U and V occurring on alternate lines"--Introduction, page 1.
