Russian peacekeeping : part I : the Soviet backround / by N.A. Kellet. : D68-27/3-1994E-PDF

"This research note constitutes the first part of a study of contemporary Russian peacekeeping. It examines the record of Soviet peacekeeping between 1945 and the formal demise of the USSR on 26 December 1991, with a view to assessing similarities and differences between Soviet and Russian attitudes and practices, the better to understand current Russian policies. In this first part of the study, the focus will be on each United Nations peacekeeping operation between 1948 and 1991, and on Soviet reactions in each case. The second part of the study will analyse Russian peacekeeping, both within and outside the framework of the UN, since December 1991. It will examine such aspects of Russian peacekeeping deployments, rules of engagement, relationship with the UN, and organizational issues (manning, training, etc.)"--Abstract, page ii.
