"In fall 1993, R.L. & L. Environmental Services Ltd. was contracted by the Northern River Basins Study to carry out a fish and habitat inventory of the mainstem Athabasca River from Athabasca Falls to the Town of Athabasca. Included in the study were inventories of three tributaries in Jasper National Park. The objectives of the study were (1) to document the distribution and abundance of fish and habitat in the mainstem Athabasca River and three of its major tributaries, (2) to identify areas where large numbers of fish could be efficiently marked, (3) to record the locations of whitefish and bull trout spawning areas, (4) to collect non-lethal ageing structures (scales) from mountain whitefish in three reaches of the Athabasca River, (5) to apply Northern River Basins Study Floy tags to "larger" individuals, (6) to collect and preserve several specimens for stable isotope and contaminant analyses, and (7) to collect ripe mountain whitefish for collection of fertilized eggs"--Report summary.
