A standard test for nutrient deficiency showed that growth of algal periphyton was limited by phosphorus. More detailed growth and biomass responses to P additions were examined at P04-P additions of 0 (control), 0.1, 0.2, 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 ugL-1 applied to randomly selected troughs from which tile and silt substrata were sampled to measure the time-course accrual of chlorophyll a.
