"An angler diary program collected 1981 catch and effort data from B.C. tidal water anglers. During 1,521,100 angler days British Columbia anglers caught and kept a total of 619,800 salmon including 192,500 chinook and 308,200 coho. The chinook catch in 1981 was substantially less than 1980 while catches of other species demonstrated relatively little change. Most effort was from boats and directed towards catching salmon in general. An apparent increase in effort in 1981 was attributed to improved data collection. Catch per unit effort estimates are comparable to those obtained from other sources. Problems and improvements related to the diary program are reviewed"--Abstract, page iii.
