The discolouration of Foxe Basin ice / N.J. Campbell and A.E. Collin. : Fs97-27/6E-PDF

"The main production areas of dirty ice in Foxe Basin appear to be the eastern half of the Basin, particularly the open sea region south and east of Prince Charles Island, where the water is shallow and the intertidal zones extensive. In this area, the turbulence, currents and tides are extreme. A mechanism of suspension freezing accounts for the distribution of dirt within the ice, as well as the restricted geographical limits of this interesting phenomenon. These conditions cannot be entirely explained by any other theory"--Summary, page 13.
