"Work in compressed air is associated with a number of hazards, the most serious of which are the pressure-related injuries (burst lung and decompression sickness). Modern construction methods and newer decompression tables have con-considerably reduced overall risks. The newest treatment methods have similarly reduced morbidity and fatality risks when an accident occurs. This paper outlines the basics of emergency handling of casualties and the definitive treatment of pressure related accidents"--Abstract, page v.
