Dementia-inclusive communities and the built environment : implementation challenges and opportunities : final report / prepared for the Public Health Agency of Canada. : H14-661/2025E-PDF
"This public opinion research report presents the results of online focus groups and in-depth interviews conducted by Narrative Research on behalf of the Public Health Agency of Canada to better understand the role of local governments in the provision of dementia-inclusive communities (DICS), focusing on the built environment, including familiarity and expertise related to DICs, along with experiences and opinions on opportunities, challenges and barriers to implementing dementia-inclusive measures, including variability across diverse communities. The research included a total of 18 online focus groups of various sizes (inclusive of two dyads and two triads) and 15 in-depth interviews conducted from February 3rd to March 20th, 2025. Good geographic coverage was achieved across Canada, except for Quebec, territories, and northern areas of the provinces where recruitment was notably lower than targeted despite repeated efforts. Various community sizes were represented, including large urban, small/medium urban, and rural areas. Across Canada, a total of 105 local government (unelected) officials took part in the study"--Verso of cover.
