"Several commissions/inquiries, public consultations, and surveys have found that there is support for increasing the use of restorative justice in Canada. However, restorative justice continues to operate in the margins - it is not a part of the mainstream processes - of the criminal justice system, which is practiced through community-based programs. The lack of awareness and understanding of restorative justice by both criminal justice system professionals and the public, may be one impediment to its use.
