While its basic objectives, theoretical concepts and practical suggestions are generally applicable, the examples of environmental surveillance and monitoring programs presented must be adapted for specific projects. Indeed, it is virtually impossible to propose programs that are applicable to the broad range of possible projects and environmental conditions. Consequently, the recommendations and suggestions given here, especially in terms of the parameters analysed and the frequency of analysis, are presented merely as examples and should not be considered strict guidelines applicable to every project.
