"As part of a study on lake talik formation, time-domain electromagnetic (TEM) soundings were conducted over First Landing Lake, and along a section from First Landing Lake to Second Landing Lake in the vicinity of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Second Landing Lake exhibits an electrical conductivity structure consistent with frozen and unfrozen ground, and is interpreted to support a talik to at least 100 m depth. First Landing Lake exhibits a more complicated electrical conductivity structure including high conductivity anomalies that may be associated with sublacustrine saline permafrost. The presence of a talik beneath First Landing Lake and thepotential groundwater connectivity between the two lakes are challenging to interpret"--Summary, page i.
